CHANGING A SPARE TIRE
One of the most common car problems that can happen to you is getting a flat tire. Here, in a simple step by step list, we will show you how to help yourself and learn how to change a flat tire. After the tire got flat, pull the car to the side as much as possible, so you are in a safe distance from the other traffic.
How to Change a Flat Tire Step by Step
- Make yourself and your car visible !!! Turn on the emergency lights, pull the handbrake, get your signalization out of the car.(a emergency triangle, signal light etc.)
- Put the emergency signalization in a safe distance from the car. (so other people who are coming your way can clearly see you and stop or go by you).
- Take out the spare tire, tire wrench and car jack -Tire changing tool
- Take of the rim plate (which is covering the tire screws, put the tire wrench on the screws and apply counter clockwise pressure. Loosen the tire screws so they go easily with the wrench, DON'T UNSCREW THEM ALL THE WAY!!!
- Put the carjack in the proper place under the car (every car has its appropriate place for the carjack). Make sure that the foot of the jack is on a firm surface so the car dose not fall of the jack!
- Lift the car, unscrew the tire screws, take of the flat tire, put the spare in place
- Tighten the screws clockwise by hand and lightly with the wrench.
- Put the car down, pull out the carjack and strongly tighten the tire screws. Put the rim cap back on or put it in the trunk.
- Put the flat, the tools and emergency signalization in the trunk, turn of the signalization in the car, put the handbrake down and GO!
Remember, SAFETY IS FIRST!! Don't do anything in a hurry (like jack the car up first and then loosen the screws), doing something faster will probably end in disaster! Always remember never to leave behind anything (rim cap, tools, signalization etc.) as that may pose a risk to other participants in traffic. Also, and this is very important, after successfully changing a flat, go to the first tire service in sight and repair the flat. After doing that, your safe if you get another flat.
