Step by Step Procedure

This procedure begins when you have stopped someone on the parking lot or on the road and is ready to help you jump start your car. So:
  1. Put the cars into place so that the batteries are as close to one another as possible (don't get to close, you want to keep the cars at a safe distance)
  2. Get the cables out of the car and separate them (plus and minus cable)
  3. Take the plus cable first, put it on the plus terminal of one car and then on the other
  4. Take the minus cable second and put it on the minus terminal of one car and then on the second car
  5. Start the car which has the good battery and push the gas throttle a bit (2000-2500 rpm max)
  6. Try starting your car
  7. After starting your car, take off the cables, in reverse procedure (plus from one car then the other, minus from one car and then the other)
  8. Leave the car running so that the alternator can refill the battery. Put the cables back in the car and your ready to go.

Safety: don’t, under any circumstances, connect the plus and minus cables together as it will possibly cause damage, not only to you car but to the other. Watch that the cables, after you put them on both batteries, don't fall into the engine space (for example to fall into the car belts), this can cause you a lot of trouble and damage. As we always say, take your time. Don't hurry, do the procedure right, safe and believe me you will finish sooner than trying to do this in a hurry. Useful advice, ALWAYS have a pair of jump start cables in your car! Their not expensive, don't take a lot of space in the trunk and when the situation comes that you need them, they are a “life saver”.

At the end, if it’s not to much for you, thank the driver that stopped to help you. Remember, people are not obligated to stop, so anyone who stops to help you has done you a big favor.
